1. Overview
Document Reader is a local document-management and reading application. It can open supported files, organize them into a library and collections, scan physical documents, convert images to PDF, save files, and share files when you request it.
We do not operate a server that receives or stores the contents of your documents. Your files are not sold, rented, or used to build advertising profiles.
2. Information handled by the app
The app may handle the following information to provide its features:
- Files and file metadata: document content, file name, format, size, location, and modification date.
- Library data: favorites, collections, reading progress, recent items, and app preferences.
- Images and scans: photos selected from the gallery and pages returned by the document scanner.
- Purchase status: whether the one-time “remove ads” product is owned.
- Advertising and diagnostic data: data processed by Google Mobile Ads as described below.
Library records and preferences are stored locally on your device. Document Reader does not require you to create an account.
3. Documents, photos, and device storage
Document Reader accesses supported files only through Android storage mechanisms and permissions available to the app. Depending on your Android version and the feature you use, the app may:
- Display supported documents and images stored on your device.
- Open a file you select through Android’s system file or photo picker.
- Create, copy, rename, organize, save, or delete app-managed files when you choose those actions.
- Read a file opened through Android’s “Open with” menu.
File contents are processed locally for reading, thumbnails, conversion, organization, and saving. The app does not upload document contents to the developer.
4. Camera and document scanner
The document-scanning feature uses Google ML Kit through Google Play services. The scanner flow operates on the device, and you control which scanned pages are returned to Document Reader. Scanned pages are saved only when you confirm a save or export action.
Google Play services may download the scanner interface, models, and related resources before the first use. See Google’s ML Kit document scanner documentation.
5. Advertising
The free version displays interstitial advertisements through Google AdMob. Google and its advertising partners may process information such as:
- IP address and general device information.
- Advertising identifiers or other app/device identifiers, where permitted.
- Ad impressions, clicks, interactions, and frequency information.
- Approximate location inferred from IP address.
- Crash, performance, security, and fraud-prevention information.
This data may be used to deliver, limit, measure, personalize, or protect advertising, depending on your region, device settings, and privacy choices. In regions where consent is required, advertising choices may be presented before eligible ad processing.
You can permanently disable advertisements by purchasing the one-time “Remove Ads” product. For more information, review Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s advertising technologies information.
6. In-app purchases
The one-time “Remove Ads” purchase is processed by Google Play Billing. Document Reader receives product availability and purchase-entitlement information needed to unlock the feature and restore a previous purchase. The developer does not receive or store your complete payment-card details.
Google Play may process transaction, account, device, security, and fraud-prevention information under Google’s own terms and privacy policy.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Documents remain on your device until you delete or move them.
- Library records, reading progress, collections, favorites, and settings remain until you remove them, clear app storage, or uninstall the app.
- Purchase records are retained by Google Play according to Google’s policies.
- Advertising data is retained by Google and its partners according to their policies and your privacy choices.
Because the app has no developer-operated user account or cloud document storage, there is no developer-held document archive to delete.
9. Security
Document Reader uses Android’s storage, application sandboxing, system pickers, and platform sharing controls. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Protect your device with a screen lock and avoid sharing sensitive files with untrusted applications.
10. Children’s privacy
Document Reader does not knowingly request names, email addresses, or user accounts from children. Advertising and Google Play services may process data as described in their own policies and according to the app’s configured audience and regional requirements.
11. Privacy choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights relating to personal data processed by third-party services.
- Use the privacy choices presented by Google where available.
- Reset or limit the advertising identifier through Android settings.
- Disable ads permanently through the one-time purchase.
- Revoke storage or media permissions through Android settings.
- Delete local app data by clearing storage or uninstalling the app.
Requests concerning data controlled by Google should be directed to Google through its privacy controls. Requests concerning Document Reader may be submitted using the contact mechanism below.
12. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the app’s features, third-party services, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
13. Contact
For privacy questions about Document Reader, use the developer contact information displayed on the app’s Google Play store listing. Please do not send sensitive documents with a privacy inquiry.
